Illinois Child Support

Family Law Attorneys Serving Clients From Offices in Chicago, Schaumburg and Wheaton

In Illinois, child support is usually paid by the non-custodial parent to the custodial parent for the support and education of the children. The court may also order the non-custodial parent to pay a portion of the child’s health care expenses not covered by insurance and to pay reasonable child care expenses.

At Anderson & Associates, P.C., our family law attorneys can help you understand Illinois child support law and how it will affect you and your family. We represent men and women who need help:

When you need effective legal representation in court, contact Anderson & Associates or call 312-345-9999 for the Chicago office or 847-995-9999 for the Schaumburg office or 630-653-9400 for Wheaton. Our lawyers help clients going to family court in Cook County, DuPage County, Lake County, Kane County, Will County, and McHenry County.

Illinois Child Support Guidelines

Illinois courts determine child support payments by using the Child Support Guidelines. The amount of support is based on the income of the non-custodial parent. The percentages are as follows:

Number of
Children

Percentage of Supporting Party’s Net Income

In child support matters net income is calculated as:

All income minus state and federal taxes, Social Security and Medicare payments, mandatory retirement contributions, union dues, healthcare premiums, and prior child support obligations.

Child support stops when a child reaches the age of 19, or earlier if the child becomes emancipated. Payments may continue beyond the age of 19 if the child pursues post-secondary education or remains dependent because of illness or disability.

The family law attorneys at Anderson & Associates can help you apply Illinois child support laws to your financial situation to develop fair and enforceable child support agreements for your family.
